Materials–Based Research Grant

2019

The project aims to design, fabricate and deploy artist’s instruments in conjunction with the KM3NeT Neutrino Telescope submerged deep in the Mediterranean Sea. These instruments will draw on and hybridize the distinctive craft cultures and technologies of scientific instrument fabrication, musical instrument making and contemporary sculptural and functional craft. The instruments, once deployed, will generate unique artistic outcomes that will include the sculptural instruments themselves. As well, the existing instrumentation of the Km3NeT array will be used to create original sound works that combine sonification of astrophysical data and ambient natural and anthropogenic sound recorded by the array.
