Mary Kuvet

The Windgate Fellowship will enable me to travel along both sides of the U.S. Mexico border region over a six-month time period to meet with craft practitioners, conduct interviews, document their studios, and record their stories, while engaging local communities through weaving. This research will result in the first part of the long-term research project and digital publication, Craft Movements: Perspectives From the U.S. Mexico Border. I will use the remainder of my funds to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico to learn indigenous Zapotec weaving and natural dyeing techniques from the Gutierrez family.
