Statement: I work in an expanded ceramics field that combines objects and interactivity. I create mass-produced goods in a factory process with my own hands. Everything is multiplied in a playful recreation full of imprints and inconsistencies. From donuts to cigarettes to paintbrushes to skin bleaching soap, these products are made by the dozen. Fellowship Plans: I will do 3 things: unite community and ceramics, take a ceramics research trip to the Philippines, and advance my studio practice. I will create workshops that allow the public to work with ceramics gratis. I will travel to the Philippines to research traditional Filipino ceramic craft and contemporary craft formed after many waves of colonialism. I will create an infrastructure that allows me to create more ambitious installations exploring abusive consumerist culture. I will also invest in a public use Bay Area ceramic studio.
The Center for Craft is expanding, adding an additional 7,000 ft² of program space within our historic 1912 building in downtown Asheville! During this time our building will be closed — reopening Fall 2019. Our Grants and Fellowships programs will continue to operate on a normal schedule.Close X
