The Center for Craft recently reached a major milestone in the transfer of the American Craft Council Library & Archives Collection when it transported the holdings from Minneapolis to Asheville. What does moving a national craft archive look like?
📚 20,000+ books, papers, and physical materials boxed
📦 70 pallets packed and transported
⚖️ 1,300 lbs per pallet
🚚 90,000+ total lbs of materials moved
📍 900+ miles traveled from Minneapolis to Asheville
Each box contains a piece of craft history—books, magazines, exhibition catalogs, artist files, and organizational records that document decades of making, research, and scholarship.
These materials will join the Center’s existing Materials Collection and Craft Research Fund Study Collection to form the Center for Craft Community Library and Archives, opening in spring 2028. Access to the Digital Collection will launch in early May.
