Kim Harty is an artist, educator, and innovator working at the intersection of glass, contemporary craft, and feminist practice. With a deep technical foundation in glassblowing, her work explores materiality and process, challenging traditional notions of craftsmanship by deconstructing and recontextualizing historical techniques. She often uses glass as both medium and subject to investigate embodiment, labor, and the politics of making.

Harty earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited nationally, and her work is held in the permanent collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Toledo Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Art, and the Columbia Museum of Art. In 2025, she was awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Grant. Harty currently serves as Associate Professor and Section Lead of Glass at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, where she shapes the next generation of artists through a pedagogy rooted in critical making and material exploration.
