Recipient of the Marlin Miller Family Award for the Windgate-Lamar Fellowship

Rebecca Zhang is a multidisciplinary maker from New York City working in paper and clay, with a particular interest in book arts and teaware. They received their BFA from Alfred University, where they studied ceramics and graphic design. In New York, Rebecca works as an instructor and has completed residencies in Jingdezhen and at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. Most recently, Rebecca was a ceramics intern at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. In February, they will join Penland School of Craft as a 2027 Core Fellow.

Rooted in a personal search for assurance, harmony, and balance, their practice draws inspiration from Taoist principles that value simplicity, flow, and attentiveness. They are interested in translating these intangible ideas into material form, using craft as a means to cultivate a meditative, focused state of engagement for both themselves and the viewer.
