This research surveys textile artist Carole Harris’ five-decade career, highlighting her contributions to Black abstraction and textile art. Building on the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit’s study of Gallery 7, a famed Detroit space dedicated to Black artists experimenting with abstraction and minimalism in the 1970s, it emphasizes Harris’ innovative quilts, which challenge the boundaries between craft and fine art.
