Chase proposed to travel to Japan, New York City, and Penland School of Crafts to expand their knowledge of both western and non-western costume and culture, and to learn new papermaking and sculptural techniques. Additionally, the provision of a studio space allowed them to create more fulfilling and skillful objects.
