Windgate-Lamar Fellowship
2022
My work is heavily inspired by traveling and getting outside of my comfort zone. I try to find inspiration from the culture that surrounds me, while in museums as well as in the landscape and among people. I start all of my work through experimentation and learning through each process, however using imagery and color stay at the forefront of my work. I feel it is important to grab the viewers’ attention, so they will want to know the story behind my work. I gravitate towards imagery that reflects representation; not only in physicality but also through emotion which can unite the viewers to my art. I find a lot of inspiration from history, it was a subconscious element that found its way into my work, that I embrace. It is through research that I find connection, context, and direction for my art.
